How Are You Treating God?

It is the people we love who can hurt us the most.  It is the people we are closest to who can hurt us the most.  We all know something of the hurt that can come from relationships.  But there is no relational hurt worse than the ache of a parent-child estrangement or the betrayal of a marriage.  But it is these two hurts that God uses to reveal to His people just how they are treating Him.  In the O.T. book of Hosea God actually calls this prophet to go and marry a prostitute to reveal to the nation of Israel how they were treating Him.  He also called Hosea to try and father children of unfaithfulness to reveal to the nation that they were acting like unfaithful children not trusting the Father’s heart.  God revealed to the people that they were in bondage to an orphan spirit that was leading them into spiritual prostitution.  The orphan spirit is choosing to live outside the Father’s ways and not trusting His heart.  Spiritual prostitution is living contrary to God’ ways.  Unless this orphan spirit is replaced by the Spirit of adoption it will take a person and even a nation deeper and deeper into spiritual prostitution with destructive consequences.
Here is the amazing thing.  Jesus became an orphan on the cross so that we could be adopted back into the family of God.  When Jesus said from the cross, “My God My God why have you forsaken Me,”  He was orphaned, fatherless for us.  Also, on the cross when He cried out “It is finished,”  He who knew no sin took all of our sin, shame and guilt – all of our spiritual prostitution past, present and future and covered it with His blood – made us clean again.
We treat God how we see God.  Are you seeing God through orphan eyes or through the eyes of a beloved child?  Look to Jesus, He will remove your orphan eyes and replace them with beloved children’s eyes that can truly see how deeply their heavenly Father loves them and has great things for them.

Note about the picture:  I took this photo on a trip to Haiti.  Haiti is a graphic example of some of the destruction that can occur because of the orphan spirit.  Lets pray for a might awakening from the orphan spirit to the Spirit of adoption for the people of Haiti!
