What is the priority plan of your house? Whether you are married with kids or without kids or single we all need a priority plan. A priority plan defines who we are and sets the foundation for how we make decisions and live out a calling rather than just making a living. What were the priorities of your home growing up and how did your father and mother model them before you? The priorities we live by today form the generation of tomorrow. And young person, the priority plan you live by in High School is positioning you for the next stage whether that is College or something else. In Joshua 24 verse 15, Joshua makes a simple but profound statement defining the priority plan of his house: “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” I want to share the Woodrow household priority plan with you now. It hangs at the entrance to our kitchen and we try to talk about it regularly during our family dinners.God chose us to be a family and has given each of us to the other and we are to give special priority to one another. Our family is part of something bigger, the family of God – Christ’s Church. We serve Jesus our King and live for His kingdom to come.
Have you ever been on a bad course in your life? I know I have. The decisions we make in life set the course for our life. Recently, with school starting again, Meshell and I sat down and came up with 5 questions we want our High School girls to process to help them make good decisions. You can adapt these questions though for any season of life.
What do you want to be known for in High School?
What is your plan for developing good relationships in High School?
What are your convictions and plan for purity/dating in High School?
What do you want to see happen in your school? What are you praying for?
What is your plan for maintaining and developing your relationship with Jesus?
And finally, are you living from calling or just trying to make a living? What does it mean to live from calling? Well, this is what Moses exhorted the Israelites to before they entered into the Promise land. Deuteronomy 30:19-20
“This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him.”
This verse reveals the progression of intimacy with God and therefore reveals how to live from calling. First, we must choose to follow Jesus as Savior and Lord. Secondly, we must learn to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Then, we are positioned to hear His voice and calling in our life and grow in communication with Him. And finally, when we get free from just making a living to living from calling we need to hold on tight to God for He will take us places and open doors for our life that we could never do on our own.
