Orphans are ignorant of their history. They do not know where they have come from or who they are. So, orphans run not knowing their history and not able to lay hold of their inheritance. We are all born with an orphan spirit in search of who we are and where we are going. God has sent Jesus into this world to call us orphans home into God’s Trinitarian family so we can walk in God’s everlasting inheritance.
On Sunday April 27th I will be starting a new series titled: From Moses to Jesus, knowing our history so we can walk in our inheritance with burning hearts. We are a people who do not know our history. If we do not know where we have come from we cannot be sure about where we are going. Many people have big questions about how the Old Testament and New Testaments fit together. In this series we will see God’s amazing plan in history and how Christ has uniquely fulfilled it. What every Christian should know about Judaism and what every Jew should know about Christianity will be looked at during this series as well.
Let me give you a little taste of the incredible inheritance that is ours:
God blessed Abram (Abraham) and made a covenant with him promising to bless all the families in the world through him. Though man can be disobedient and miss the blessings and fall under cursing, God is always faithful to His covenant promises:
Genesis 12:1-3
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
The glorious gospel of Jesus Christ tells us that if we are in Christ that we are actually made part of Abraham’s family:
Galatians 3:28-29
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.
Because we are in Christ and now Abraham’s offspring we have a new identity as children of God and a new inheritance from God our father that we are to lay hold of by faith:
2 Corinthians 1:20-22
20 For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. 21 And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, 22 and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
Amazing! “All” God’s promises are “yes” in Christ! So, this raising the question, “what are these promises of God that we can walk in, and how do we lay hold of them in our lives?”
I hope you will journey with us as we seek after these big questions during this next series. If you are not here in person you can join the journey by watching us live at www.ccaspen.com on Sundays at either 8:30am or 10:30am or you can go watch the archived messages anytime. They are usually posted by the following Tuesday.
