Marriages that Minister

We hear a lot about Marriage Ministry, but not nearly enough about Marriages that Minister.  Marriage ministries are those ministries that look to enhance and heal marriages that are either starting or are in trouble.  Marriage ministry is critical and an essential part of the life of the church, but I believe we have not cast a vibrant and dynamic enough vision for what marriage should be.  It is not to be in a constant state of needing ministry, though we all need checkups. It is to be moving toward a marriage that can minister to others.  We need a vision where Marriages Minister.  There are few  examples within scripture showing the life of a married couple.  One shining example is Priscilla and Aquila.  They present a great vision for a marriage that ministers.
Marriages that Minister are Missional.  In Acts chapter 18 we are introduced to Priscilla and Aquila.  They had recently come from Rome to Corinth and had become acquainted with Paul.  Through this friendship that grew deep they picked up and went with Paul to Ephesus where they ministered to the Church.  Marriage ministry should be developing marriages that minister to people within the church and who are open to God’s leading well beyond their neighborhood.  The world was their neighborhood.
Marriages that Minister are Imparters.  In Acts 18:26 we see that Priscilla and Aquila had become acquainted with Apollos.  He was a dynamic teacher that was teaching in Ephesus at the time.  Priscilla and Aquila lovingly took him aside and “explained to him the way of God more accurately.”  They were imparters of godly wisdom, truth about the scriptures and spiritual gifts.  They saw their ministry as lifting the level of others so they could shine more powerfully for God.
Marriages that Minister are Mobilizers.  We can see from Romans 16:3, 1 Cor. 16:19, 2 Tim. 4:19 that Priscilla and Aquila used their home to build Christ’s church.  Their home was a beautiful extension of the Church.  We can also see that they we lifetime partners with Paul in mobilizing people for the expansion of the kingdom of God.
We need more than a vision for Marriage ministry, we need a vision for Marriages that minister.
