LLIF – Live Like Its Forever

Have you heard or seen the term YOLO (You Only Live Once)?  It is the most recent texting terminology representing an old philosophy built around “living in the now.”   The problem is that without a proper perspective on our past and a clear hope for the future we cannot truly “live in the now” without it being narcissism to the max.  YOLO living will lead people into all kinds of bondage and regrets.  We need to replace YOLO with LLIF – Live Like Its Forever!  If we bring this idea to our decisions in life it will cause us to pause and think more clearly about our motivation and the future consequences of our actions.
I remember a conversation I had with one of my nephews last Thanksgiving when we were talking about the pressure to drink and experiment with sex which is so strong in High School.  I suggested that he think about and ask some of his friends ultimately what kind of woman they would want to marry in the future?  That question puzzled him since it seemed so far off as a reality.  So, I probed further and asked him if he or they would mind knowing that the girl they were looking to marry in the future had slept around with all their friends.  Tough question, but YOLO thinking eliminates healthy processing.  It didn’t take him long to think about that and realize it would bother him and his friends.  This is just one reason why boys should learn to honor the girls they date, because she is going to be someone’s wife one day.  And a note to the girls – don’t give the time of day to a boy who does not know how to honor you.  What is so sad today is that so few boys and girls know what it is to honor each other.  Remember – Live Like Its Forever!  This will lead you down a path of blessing.
So, how do we Live Like Its Forever?  Let’s take a lesson from the Apostle Paul’s passion:  “I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, and so, somehow to attain to the resurrection from the dead.  Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect ,but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.”  Philippians 3:10-12
Why has Christ Jesus taken hold of you? Live Like Its Forever – because it is!  So, if you see YOLO replace it with LLIF.
