Send Rain

The picture attached to this blog was taken by a good friend of mine who lives in CO Springs.  He took this picture close to where he and his family live.  These destructive and out of control wildfires in Colorado have awakened many of us to a more desperate intercession to God for relief and rain.  It is one thing to pray from a distance watching pictures on TV but quite another thing when an apocalyptic fire cloud looms over your house and city.
What is true for the soil of the earth is true for the soil of our lives – without rain things die.  What happens to land that has gone awhile without rain? It dries up and vegetation dies. And when land especially here in Colorado dries up it is susceptible to wild fires!  And wildfires kill, steal and destroy and make a wasteland.  So, when our souls go without the refreshing rain of the Holy Spirit our hearts harden and become fruitless. And when our hearts start to harden and our lives become fruitless we become more susceptible to the Devil’s attack.   The drier our souls the more susceptible we are to the wildfires of the enemy.   But even after a wildfire that brings havoc to our life there is hope for transformation and rain.  God desires to restore new growth to our lives from the ashes.   There is always hope for transformation because of the unfailing love of God through Jesus Christ.
So, let’s vamp up our intercession for these fires to be stopped here in Colorado and around the nation.  And vamp up our prayers for all those in need and all those putting their lives on the line to fight these fires!  And finally, let’s also use this opportunity to desperately intercede for a spiritual awakening in our souls, for new life and a renewed passion for the Lord.  Let’s pray Hosea 6:3-4 with passion:
“Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge Him.  As surely as the sun rises, He will appear;  He will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.”
