Why live on purpose? Some would simply say to live on purpose because you can be more productive and accomplish certain goals. But this begs a larger question. Do you believe that you were created on purpose? I do not believe there are people who truly believe that they are just here by chance? Yes, many advocate that idea through a commitment to the theory of evolution, but it goes against the universal human question of “why am I here?” If we are all here just by chance we would never have the deep heart longing of wondering why we are here. The good news is that God created us in his image for a glorious purpose. Ultimately, God desires a personal relationship with each of us. He also desires to reveal a special purpose for each of our lives. So, how can we find out what that purpose is so we can start living on purpose? Let me encourage you to begin this year by taking the first hour of your day and reading and meditating on John 15:1-17. Put aside all other tasks and devotionals. Just spend some time with God and his Word and start asking him to reveal his purpose to you.
Provision follows Vision, Vision follows Prayer, Prayer follows Devotion
I encourage you to investigate John 15 and find the above statement to be true because it is revealed in John 15 and trust that God is going to speak to you personally. I also encourage you in your devotion time to realize that devotion to Jesus should never be removed from obedience to Jesus or mission for Jesus. If wrestling with obedience or living on mission are ever removed from our devotion it no longer is Christian devotion.
Prayer follows Devotion
What does it mean to you to be devoted to Christ?
What does obedience to Christ look like to you?
Vision follows Prayer
What does bearing fruit look like in your life?
Why is glorifying God our ultimate purpose?
Provision follows Vision
Are the things you are pursuing connected to your life’s purpose?
Are your prayer requests driven more by needs or God-given vision?
Greater Things for 2013!
